Madison Avenue Gallery Walk 2018

By SRI Fine Art ServicesPosted on

About a week ago, we were so excited to join Sarah Douglas, Editor-in-Chief of ArtNews, on a gallery tour during the Madison Avenue Gallery Walk.  During this two hour tour, we visited four galleries and reveled in the diversity and genius that uptown galleries have to offer.

Hauser & Wirth

32 E 69th St.

Eduardo Chillida

This inaugural exhibition gives a compelling view of the breadth and depth of Chillida’s exploration of space in sculpture, collage, drawing and books.  Be sure to plan enough time (1 hour) to watch the video on the 3rd floor that gives a sensitive look into the artist’s life.

Petzel Gallery

35 E 67th St., 3rd floor

Dirk Skreber – “Days Before”

Skreber’s large canvases are awash with a contrast of drab and neon paint depicting an abandoned amusement park near Chernobyl, Ukraine.  The paintings are simultaneously playful and eerily-uncomfortable, and the contrast is mesmerizing.

Blum & Poe  (director Alix Fry)

19 E 66th St., 4th floor

Dave Muller  – “Sex & Death & Rock & Roll”

Paintings of circular labels from vinyl albums and singles dominate this fresh show by Dave Muller.  The record labels lead you through 4 rooms and tell a story through the artists and songs from the ’20’s – ‘90’s.  Each of the exhibition rooms has a different theme – sex, death, rock & roll…  definitely worth a visit!

DiDonna

Moon Dancers  Yup’ik Masks and the Surrealists

Moon Dancers is a fascinating exhibition that shows the influence of ritual masks from the Alaskan Yup’ik tribe on the Surrealists painters.  These unusual couplings and the stories behind them tell of the spiritual explorations of the Surrealist painters.

The tour ended with a cocktail reception at Bottega Veneta with complimentary refreshments by Bombay Sapphire.  Many thanks to ArtNews and the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District for this memorable event.
